October, 2009

In cooperation with RSCC, Intersputnik has successfully upgraded the Caribe Satellite Communications Center, Cuba, following the resolutions of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Specifically, Intersputnik and RSCC repaired and restored the TNA-57 antenna system at the Caribe teleport. Having examined the antenna system, Intersputnik's experts found serious defects of reflector segments and the counter-reflector support structure. Also, the antenna control system needed significant repairs. Despite the complexity of these tasks, all repairs and restoration were performed strictly on schedule. ETECSA (Cuba) expressed appreciation to Intersputnik for high-quality retrofitting. Placed in service over 30 years ago, the TNA-57 antenna system became fully operable again as proven by subsequent tests.

This project will help establish new trunk links between Moscow and Havana and expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

2008

In 2008, Intersputnik successfully took part in two large joint satellite projects in cooperation with Space Communication Ltd. (Israel) and Telkom Indonesia (Indonesia).

The project with Space Communication Ltd., is aimed at building and launching an advanced telecommunications satellite to Intersputnik’s orbital position at 17Е. In September 2008, Intersputnik signed an agreement with Space Communications on the use of frequency assignments in the geostationary orbital position at 17E. It is important that the satellite will be manufactured by Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS).

The other project is the procurement and launch of the Telkom-3 satellite for Telkom Indonesia. Intersputnik acted as project coordinator in the interests of ISS. On December 18, 2008, it was announced that ISS had won the tender for the manufacture and launch of the Telkom-3 satellite.

Using its experience in implementing these projects Intersputnik is able develop new satellite projects on a turn-key basis for the procurement, launch and operation of future satellites.

About Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS)

The open corporation Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) is one of the leaders of Russia’s space industry engaged in manufacturing spacecraft, satellite systems and facilities for various purposes. In the first place, the corporation’s current business tasks and prospects serve the purposes of the Federal Space Program of the Russian Federation for 2006-2015 and the Federal Special Purpose Program ‘Global Navigation System’.

Under the Federal Space Program, ISS has since 2001 been building Express-AM-series spacecraft intended for protected mobile presidential and government communications, distribution of federal TV and radio programming and digitization of federal broadcasting. In 2001-2005, ISS developed and manufactured the Express-АМ22, 11, 1, 2 and 3 satellites. In January 2008 and February 2009, ISS’ Express-AM33 and Express-AM44 telecommunications spacecraft were successfully launched for the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, the Federal Space Agency and RSCC. All Express-AM-series spacecraft were developed and manufactured by ISS within the framework of the program of upgrading the Russian satellite fleet. In May 2009, ISS won an open tender for the development of Express-AM5 and Express-AM6 slated for launch in 2012.
